Emilie Rook

Emilie Rook is director of the Christian Studies Fellowship. She recently earned her Ph.D. in music at the University of Pittsburgh after completing her M.A.R. degree, concentrated in music, at Yale Divinity School and the Yale Institute of Sacred Music. Emilie’s academic work examines the intersection of music and religion, particularly how musical practices can provide insight into broader questions of piety, power, and politics. Her dissertation research explored issues of identity formation through music for Catholics in Indonesia and was sponsored by the AMINEF/Fulbright program. Emilie has presented her work at national and international conference in a variety of disciplines—from musicology and ethnomusicology to congregational music studies, religious studies, and campanology (the study of bells)—and looks forward to continuing to pursue and support the integration of faith and interdisciplinary learning through her work with the Beatrice Institute.
