Lecture and Symphony: Beethoven's Eroica

  • Heinz Hall Heinz Hall Regency Room (map)

“Why We Listen to Beethoven: Musical Meaning and the Third Symphony.”

Does Christianity provide the most compelling approach to the aesthetics of music?

Taking Beethoven’s Eroica as his subject, Dr. Paul Munson (Professor of Music at Grove City College) will engage the intersection of musical meaning and Christianity, introducing this pivotal work in the classical repertoire to new (and old) listeners while arguing the inherent theological motivations for engaging with great music.

Beatrice Institute will be joining students and community at the PSO’s rendition of this work after the lecture! Both will take place within Heinz Hall. We highly encourage anyone interested in this event to attend both the lecture and the symphony.
