Hypostasis: Against the Nestorians and the Monothelitists (two natures/one will): FCI Seminar 6

  • First Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church 531 North Neville Street Pittsburgh, PA, 15213 United States (map)

Having discussed Christ’s divinity and his full humanity, in this seminar we think about what that means for Christ’s person. How many wills does Christ have? One or two intellects? Did he learn and grow, or was he born in full possession of divine knowledge? If Christ has a divine intellect and a divine will, how was he “tempted”? How did he “grow in wisdom”? What does it mean for Christ to ask for his “cup” to pass from him in the Garden of Gethsemane? In what way does the “Hypostatic Union” make Christ like us, and in what way does it make his personhood different than ours? This seminar will be lead by Dr. James DeMasi.
